Police remind motorists to take care in school zones in Western Region

Police are reminding motorists to keep safety at the top of mind as children return to school following an extended period of schooling from home.

Traffic and Highway Patrol officers attached to the North West Command are increasing their presence around schools to ensure drivers are obeying the rules and observing the 40km/h school zones, which are in place from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

North West Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Superintendent Paul Glinn has reminded motorists that police will continue to target those who speed, double park, or use their phones in school zones.

“Whilst we generally see good compliance from motorists, I cannot accept that people are unaware of the 40km/h speed limit in school zones.

“There are no excuses for not knowing the rules and putting the lives of school children at risk.” Supt Glinn said.

Drivers wanting additional reminders of the speed limit are encouraged to download the Speed Advisor App, which provides audio alerts to your phone about speed limits and school zones.
