Police have been praised for their quick actions in performing CPR on a member of the public.
About 5:15pm yesterday (Wednesday 24 February 2021), emergency services were called to Newman Street, Merrylands, following reports a man had collapsed on the street.
Officers from the Police Transport Command, Transport Action Group, North West were nearby and responded within a few minutes.
When police arrived on scene the 40-year-old man was found to be purple in colour, unconscious and not breathing.
Officers have immediately commenced CPR for over 10 minutes. As a result, the man commenced displaying signs of life. Police continued first aid until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics who assisted the man in regaining consciousness.
He was conveyed to Westmead Hospital by paramedics where he is expected to make a full recovery.
Police Transport Command North West, Duty Officer Chief Inspector Colin Moore said it was a fantastic outcome for all concerned.
“Police work is extremely diverse and unpredictable. Fortunately, the officers were in the right place at the right time. Clearly their first aid training kicked in and they were able to save the life of this man,” Chief Inspector Moore said.
“Had the officers not acted the way they did this would have been a very tragic outcome.”
