Police search for erratic driver between Ballan and Melton

Melton Highway Patrol officers are searching for a driver travelling at nearly 100km/h over the speed limit in Melton on Wednesday, 19 February.

A grey Holden Commodore sedan was travelling at an estimated speed of about 180km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Western Freeway at Ballan about 12.30pm.

The Commodore continued driving eastbound reaching speeds of 196km/h in the emergency lane of the Western Freeway near Coburns Road Melton.

The sedan exited the Western Highway onto the Melton Highway, then turned onto High Street in Melton at speeds in excess of 120km/h in a 70km/h zone.

The Commodore turned right into Smith Street narrowly avoiding a head-on collision.

The driver of the grey Commodore was a Caucasian male.
