Police Seek Information After Bike Crash At Newcastle

Police are appealing for information as part of an investigation into a crash between a motorcycle and bicycle at Newcastle today.

About 4am (Thursday 29 February 2024), emergency services were called to the Glendale to Wallsend Cycle Way, Wallsend, following reports a cyclist had been found injured on the cycle way.

Police have been told that the man was riding along the path about 3.30am, when he collided with a trail motorcycle near the Newcastle Link Road underpass.

The motorcyclist stopped briefly before fleeing the scene.

A short time later, a cyclist stopped to render assistance and contact emergency services.

The 61-year-old Elermore Vale man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to the John Hunter Hospital for suspected neck and spinal injuries.

Police from Newcastle City Police District and the Crash Investigation Unit have commenced inquiries into the incident and are calling on anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam to come forward.

Police are also urging anyone with information about the identity of the motorcyclist to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
