Police seek information on Vehicle fire – Malak

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses in relation to a suspected arson in Malak on Monday 17 January 2022.

At approximately 2:15pm, the Joint Emergency Services Communications Centre received reports of a vehicle on fire in Stapleton Court, dispatching both NT Fire and Rescue Service and Police.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes. There were no reported injuries, however the vehicle, a 1969 Bedford bus parked outside a residence, sustained significant damage.

Police forensics and fire investigators determined that the fire was started intentionally.

Constable First Class Tara Aikas said, “Witnesses observed several youths fleeing from the scene shortly before the fire began. We do believe this is an isolated incident and would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.”
