Police seek witnesses – Fatal crash in Alice Springs

Detectives from Major Crash Investigation Unit are calling for witnesses as they investigate the movements of a motorbike rider prior to a fatal two vehicle crash west of Alice Springs yesterday afternoon.

Initial investigations indicate the 46-year-old man was riding a 2013 model black and yellow Harley Davidson Ultra Glide with side panniers (similar to stock image attached) in the Larapinta area throughout the day yesterday.

Southern Major Crash Investigation Unit Detective Cstbl 1/C Jeremy Cross said police believe the motorbike rider travelled as far west as Stanley Chasm.

“Initial investigations indicate the rider had been sighted by other motorists as far as Stanley Chasm and multiple times travelling up- and down Larapinta Drive over a period of hours prior to 1pm yesterday,” said Det Cstbl 1/C Cross

“Larapinta Drive is a large stretch of road which incorporates residential areas and vacant bushland, but we are confident there were other drivers and/or witnesses in the area who would have seen this motorbike rider at some point yesterday.”

Anyone who lives along Larapinta Drive and has street view facing CCTV, motorists with dash cam who travelled along Larapinta or anyone who may have seen a man riding a black motorbike (pictured) to share that information with police by calling 131 444 or reporting it anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
