Police seek witnesses – Pedestrian strike in Darwin

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses after a man was struck by a vehicle in Berrimah overnight.

Around 7pm, police received reports a 35-year-old man was struck by vehicle travelling inbound on the Stuart Highway, near the intersection of Vanderlin Drive, Berrimah.

The man suffered serious injuries and was treated by St John Ambulance before being conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital. He currently remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

Diversions were in place overnight but have since been removed.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner, “Police Investigations are in their early stages, however, it is believed the pedestrian was intoxicated, wearing dark clothing and walked into the path of oncoming traffic.

“Alcohol and roads do not mix, regardless of whether you are a motorist or a pedestrian. Drivers on Territory roads are urged to be vigilant for pedestrians on the roads, particularly at night when visibility is reduced.”

Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or if you have dash-cam from the area at around that time, to make contact on 131 444.
