Police stop car speeding through north western suburbs

Police have had to use their vehicles to stop a speeding car in Melbourne’s north western suburbs after it failed to stop for police and travelled on the wrong side of the road.

The incident kicked off when police were in Craigieburn Road and noticed an allegedly stolen Ford Falcon driving erratically just after midnight.

The car speed off from police before local units patrolled unable to find the car.

The Airwing then spotted the car nearby driving erratically and followed it as it drove on the Western Ring Road, through Fawkner and into Keilor East.

Two youths were seen to dump the vehicle in Keilor East and pick up another allegedly stolen car before driving off.

During the time police were following the vehicle it was seen to drive at excessive speeds, at times, in excess of 150km/h.

Officers successfully deployed stop sticks in Ballarat Road in Deer Park before the Ford Ranger entered onto the Western Ring Road at Cairnlea, with its headlights off, on the wrong side of the road.

Police who were in pursuit of the car then used their vehicles to stop the Ranger in Keilor Park Drive, near Stadium Drive in Keilor Park, due to the manner in which the vehicle was being driven and the extreme risk poised to the public.

The pair, a 17-year-old female from Roxburgh Park and a 17-year-old male from Gowanbrae, were arrested after a short foot pursuit when they tried to run from the vehicle.

A search of the car uncovered an alleged quantity of GHB and ice.

The teens were taken to hospital for medical treatment before it is expected they will face a children’s court later today.
