Police Transport Command officers charge man over sex act on train in Redfern

Officers from the Police Transport and Public Safety Command have charged a man with a sex offence following an investigation of an incident earlier this year.

About 6.50am on Saturday 22 August 2020, a 21-year-old woman boarded a train at Redfern and sat in a carriage when it is alleged another passenger allegedly exposed himself and performed a lewd act in front of her.

The women reported the incidents to Redfern Police Area Command and an investigation was commenced by officers from the Police Transport Command North/Central Transport Action Group (TAG).

Following inquiries, a 48-year-old man was arrested at a home in Eastlakes about 6.50am yesterday (Tuesday 6 October 2020).

He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with carry out sex act without consent.

He was given conditional bail and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 18 November 2020.

As inquiries continue, police would like to remind members of the public who use public transport, and may have had a similar experience, to always report the incident to police.
