Police treating fire as suspicious, Rockhampton 27 August

Police are investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a church in Rockhampton in the early hours of this morning August 27.

Around 2am today police and emergency services were called to Park Avenue after reports of a building being engulfed by fire.

The church was completely destroyed by the fire and a crime scene established by police.

Around 9am, a 33-year-old man from Gympie, was taken into police custody and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the

area at the time of the blaze or may have dashcam or video to assist the investigation to make contact.
