Police update: Light plane crash at Fernvale

Police are appealing for witnesses following a light plane crash at Fernvale yesterday which claimed the lives of three men.

Preliminary information indicates the aircraft departed Dalby at around 9.00am and was due to land at Archerfield at around 10am, however failed to arrive.

A search commenced for the plane which was subsequently located around 2.50pm at a rural location near Fernvale in dense bushland.

The 63-year-old male pilot from Helensvale and his two male passengers aged 20 and 48, both from Teneriffe, were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the aircraft travelling through the Fernvale or Lowood area after 9am, or heard a plane flying low, to come forward.

The Forensic Crash Unit will investigate circumstances of the crash with assistance from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
