Police update: Property crime and stolen vehicle incidents at Townsville

Police have arrested and charged five teenagers following a series of incidents involving alleged stolen cars in Townsville yesterday.

A 13-year-old girl has been charged with burglary, stealing and three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possessing instruments of house-breaking, possessing drug utensil, possessing a knife, obstructing police and two counts of stealing.

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possessing a category M weapon and two counts of stealing.

A 13-year-old boy has been charged with burglary and committing an indictable offence.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested in relation to a burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Police are also investigating an incident in Julago last night around 9.45pm when two stolen vehicles allegedly forced another vehicle off the road on the Bruce Highway. The driver is in Townsville University Hospital in a stable condition.

Investigators are urging anyone who was in the Julago area between 9.30pm and 10pm and has dash-cam footage to contact police.

Chief Superintendent Craig Hanlon said police currently have a number of suspects.

“We have a number of people of interest who are known to police. We will be relentless in bringing the people who committed these offences to justice,” Chief Superintendent Hanlon said.

“The information provided by members of the public is invaluable in solving these extremely serious crimes.”
