Police update: Pursuit of stolen vehicle at Sunshine Coast

Two boys have been charged after a stolen ute allegedly rammed a number of police cars on the Sunshine Coast this afternoon.

A total of eight police vehicles were damaged as a result of the incident, however no one was seriously injured.

A 12-year-old Logan Central boy and a 14-year-old Bli Bli boy have both been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, evasion and driving unlicensed.

Police attended Mooloolah Valley just after 1.20pm following sightings of a white Ford Ranger in the area that had been stolen from Maroochydore on April 9.

Officers attempted to intercept the vehicle however it allegedly drove away at high speed.

Police followed the Ranger as it travelled along Steve Irwin Way toward Caloundra, at times crossing onto the incorrect side of the road at speed.

As the vehicle travelled onto Kawana Way around 1.30pm officers deployed a tyre deflation device, however the Ranger rammed a police car and fled the area.

It is further alleged that the damaged stolen vehicle then rammed a police motorcycle in the Creekside area, causing minor injury to the officer’s leg as he was forced to take evasive action.

The Ranger continued to travel into the back streets of Kawana where it rammed another police car before heading towards Caloundra.

At Dicky Beach the damaged ute was again driven onto the incorrect side of the road where it collided with another three police cars before coming to a halt.

The alleged occupants of the stolen vehicle, two boys aged 12 and 14, were taken into custody at the scene.

Investigations are continuing.
