A new lessee will take over the management of two Townsville public swimming pools following a competitive call for tenders.
Both Kokoda Memorial Pool and Long Tan Memorial Pool will be operated by City Venue Management (CVM) from 01 July, taking over from Love2Swim School.
Deputy Mayor Suzy Batkovic said the tender process began in February and CVM had demonstrated strong value for money for the city.
“Following a highly competitive tender process, Council has appointed CVM to operate both Kokoda and Long Tan Memorial Pools,” Cr Batkovic said.
“Each of these pools is a valuable asset to the Townsville community, giving our residents safe spaces to learn to swim, get some exercise in or spend time with friends and family.
“CVM brings extensive experience in aquatic facility management, operating more than 40 pools across Queensland, including the Northern Beaches Leisure Centre and Tobruk Memorial Baths.
“CVM has a strong track record managing aquatic facilities and we look forward to seeing them continue delivering quality services for our community.
“Residents can continue to enjoy important recreational and learn to swim opportunities at both facilities.
“I’d like to thank David and Kristie from Love2Swim School for their commitment to our community. Their contribution to swim safety and aquatic education has made a positive impact on many local families.”
City Venue Management CEO Jay Clake said his team was looking forward to taking on the management of both pools.
“We are excited to expand our partnership with the City of Townsville through the management of Long Tan and Kokoda Memorial Pools, continuing to deliver high-quality aquatic facilities and programs for the community. We would also like to acknowledge David and Kristie from Love2Swim, for their dedication and contribution to aquatic services and water safety education for the community,” Mr Clarke said.
“These iconic memorial pools and broader facilities play an important role in promoting water safety, health, wellbeing and community connection.
