Man charged after officer allegedly dragged by van during vehicle stop – Lithgow

A man has been charged after allegedly dragging a police officer along the roadway following a vehicle stop in the state’s Central Tablelands region on the weekend.

Officers attached to Chifley Police District were patrolling in the Lithgow area about 4pm on Saturday 13 June 2026, when they observed a van allegedly avoiding police and driving suspiciously.

When police stopped the vehicle on Andrew Street, Bowenfels, and began speaking with the driver – a 42-year-old man – he allegedly made attempts to drive off.

As the 42-year-old allegedly drove off a male officer attempted to stop the van; however, the officer was allegedly pulled along the roadway by the vehicle for a short time, with the driver allegedly making attempts to remove the officer’s arms from the vehicle.

The officer suffered cuts and bruising after falling onto the roadway.

The driver continued to drive from the scene onto the Castlereagh Highway, Marrangaroo, before police stopped the vehicle and arrested the man.

During a search of the vehicle, police located and seized a small plastic bag containing cocaine.

The 42-year-old man was taken to Lithgow Police Station, where he was charged with possess prohibited drug, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, and assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 4 yesterday (Sunday 14 June 2026), where he was formally refused bail to reappear before Lithgow Local Court on Thursday 18 June 2026.
