Port Campbell residents are invited to drop into the Town Centre Revitalisation Project site office to see the latest plans.

Corangamite Shire Coastal Ward Councillor Jamie Vogels said the former Alcove Café, 34 Lord Street, would be open on Thursday 25 and Friday 26 August.

He encouraged locals to come and meet Council staff, the new project manager, and artist Vicki Couzens who will design integrated artwork for the works.

“It will give residents the chance to come and speak to the Council team, view the plans and find out more about the construction timeline,” Cr Vogels said.

“It will also be an opportunity to look at different parking options outside the general store.

“If you can’t make it, you can view the plans online and leave your comments on the website at portcampbelltowncentre.com.au/HaveYourSay until Friday 9 September.

“Comments will be incorporated in the final design for the 2023 works. Cr Vogels said the site office would be open more often after construction begins.

Council has appointed highly experienced civil engineer Aaron Huttig to oversee the project when physical work begins.

Renowned artist and former south west Victoria resident Dr Couzens was chosen from 19 artists to design art work spanning the town centre redesign. A Keerray Wooroong woman, her family oral history speaks of cultural connection, belonging and history with Port Campbell.

Dr Couzens’ artwork will tell a story of interconnectivity, kinship and community, using design and materials that reflect the local environment.

The project is funded by $6 M from the State Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund and $5.6 M from the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, with the balance from Council.

Extensive consultation has been used to develop this plan.
