Drivers across regional Victoria are experiencing safer and smoother journeys everyday, thanks to the Andrews Labor Government’s massive road maintenance blitz improving kilometres of roads across the state.
Minister for Roads and Road Safety Jaala Pulford and Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas today visited Trentham-Kyneton Road today to mark the halfway mark of the blitz, with 750 kilometres of roads now resurfaced, resealed or rebuilt.
Crews have been working around the clock to deliver the $425 million program, which has supported more than 1,000 jobs in regional Victoria and will improve a total of 1,500 kilometres of regional roads once complete.
The blitz has seen almost 40,000 potholes filled, 10,000 signs repaired or replaced and roads including the Calder Freeway, Maroondah Highway, Fosters-Promontory Road, Camperdown-Lismore Road and Horsham-Kalkee Road made safer and more durable for locals and visitors to regional Victoria.
With less holidaymakers now on the road, the community will see even more projects getting underway as Regional Roads Victoria continues its intensive maintenance program before winter dampens road conditions.
Key routes with work still to come include the South Gippsland Highway, Goulburn Valley Highway, Sunraysia Highway, Bells Beach Road and Borung Highway.
As more work is done, road workers will be out in force to help enforce changed traffic conditions and construction speed limits in place for the safety of the community and our road workers.
