Major LNG companies operating in Western Australia will now release two-year procurement plans to make local business more aware of upcoming opportunities in the sector.
Premier Mark McGowan unveiled Forward Work Plans – the latest initiative of the LNG Jobs Taskforce – as he opened the Australasian Oil and Gas (AOG) Exhibition and Conference in Perth.
The Forward Work Plans initiative is designed to help local businesses plan by providing information on prospective tender and contracting opportunities over the next two years.
This will increase transparency and support local industry to be more proactive in taking advantage of opportunities.
As part of the program, Chevron, Woodside, Shell and Santos have volunteered to submit their procurement Forward Work Plans to the State annually, with the first plan provided this month. The plans will then be made available publicly on a dedicated LNG Forward Work Plans project page on ICN Gateway.
The release of the Forward Work Plans is another first for the Western Australian LNG sector and the State Government’s latest push to cement WA as the region’s pre-eminent LNG hub.
The three-day AOG Exhibition and Conference runs from March 11-13 and will draw up to 8,000 delegates to the city from across the country and the world. It is the largest of its kind in Australia, and this year’s event includes a number of UK oil and gas companies in a delegation led by Scottish Development International.
The LNG Jobs Taskforce, announced by the Premier at AOG 2018, met for the first time in December. Its role is to establish WA as a global LNG hub servicing Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific region, create investment opportunities and unlock new jobs in the LNG industry.
Western Australia continues to lead the nation in natural gas exports, exporting almost 50 million tonnes of LNG a year.

“With initiatives like the Forward Work Plans, the LNG Jobs Taskforce is bringing together government and industry to maximise local jobs in WA’s LNG sector and establish the State as an LNG hub servicing Australia and the Asia-Pacific.”
