Palermo FC will make history this August with its first-ever Australian tour, bringing football, culture and Sicilian identity to Western Australia as part of CALCIO ITALIANO 2026.
The week-long program will connect Palermo, Sicily and Western Australia through football, community events and cultural celebrations for Palermo supporters, the Sicilian and Italian Australian community, and football fans.
Palermo FC will play two headline matches in Perth:
- Palermo FC v Melbourne City – Anglo-Palermitan Trophy | 7 August | Sam Kerr Football Centre
- Palermo FC v Juventus | 11 August | HBF Park
From 5-10 August, Fremantle’s Gage Roads Brewery will become CASA SICILIA, Palermo FC’s official community hub, offering football, food, music and cultural experiences celebrating the enduring connection between Sicily and Western Australia.
The hub will feature appearances from Head Coach Filippo Inzaghi, members of the first team, and club legends Amauri and Fabrizio Miccoli, alongside live entertainment, Sicilian-inspired food and beverages, family activities, merchandise and community storytelling.
A highlight of the program will be the Fremantle Festa Siciliana at Fremantle Oval on Sunday 9 August (11am-1pm). Delivered in partnership with the City of Fremantle, Tourism WA and Fremantle City Football Club, the free event will bring together junior footballers, families and supporters to celebrate grassroots football, Italian culture and Fremantle’s rich Sicilian heritage. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet Palermo FC players and club legends.
Supported by Tourism WA, the city will also be transformed into a vibrant Rosanero destination with activations celebrating the longstanding cultural ties between Fremantle, Palermo and Sicily.
Fremantle Deputy Mayor, Cr Fedele Camarda, said hosting Palermo FC is more than a sporting occasion. It is an opportunity to celebrate shared heritage, strengthen cultural ties, and showcase Fremantle as a welcoming and vibrant destination.
“As a fourth-generation Sicilian descendant, I am incredibly proud to welcome Palermo FC to Fremantle. Our city has a deep and enduring connection to Sicily, with generations of Sicilian families helping to shape Fremantle’s identity, culture and community spirit.
“For many local families, this visit represents a meaningful connection to their ancestral homeland and a chance to honour the legacy of those who made Fremantle their home.
“We are delighted to welcome the players, officials and supporters of Palermo FC to our city and look forward to sharing the warmth, hospitality and strong community values that Fremantle is known for,” said Deputy Mayor Camarda.
Fremantle City Football Club President Tony Estrano said Fremantle City FC is proud to join the City of Fremantle in welcoming Palermo FC to Western Australia.
“For our club, founded by Sicilian migrants more than 70 years ago, this visit is a meaningful celebration of our shared heritage, culture and passion for football. Hosting such an iconic club inspires our players, members and community, while reinforcing Fremantle’s place as a vibrant hub for the global game,” said Mr Estrano.
Whether you’re a lifelong Palermo supporter, proud of your Sicilian heritage or simply love football, everyone is invited to experience Fremantle’s week of celebrations.
