Priest charged over sexual violence, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged as part of an investigation into the alleged sexual touching of two women.

In July this year, detectives from Bankstown Police Area Command commenced an investigation after receiving reports two women – aged 45 and 22 – had been sexually touched on multiple occasions by man known to them.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 33-year-old man at home in Mays Hill on Wednesday 1 September 2021.

He was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with seven counts of aggravated sexually touch another person.

Police will allege in court that the incidents occurred at a home in Bankstown and a church at Mangrove on the state’s Central Coast, while the man was undertaking duties as a priest between August 2019 and February 2020.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 7 October 2021).

Inquiries are continuing.
