Prize-winning summer for young readers

Bayside is delighted to join 48 other Victorian public libraries for the BIG Summer Read, supporting children’s literacy in a fun and engaging way.

And the kids have a chance to win amazing prizes for their reading efforts.

It is a Victoria-wide reading program aimed at addressing an identified phenomenon known as the “summer slide,” which refers to the loss of literacy skills over the summer holidays.

It’s open to all primary school aged children and free to join with their library membership.

Starting in December, the kids record their reading and go into the draw to win great prizes.

It doesn’t matter how long their books are and listening to audio books and reading picture books and graphic novels count too.

The Beanstack a user-friendly website (with an intuitive mobile app) makes it easy to track their reading. The more your little ones read, the more chances they have to win.

So, get the kids out of the house and rediscover your local library this summer while sparking a love of reading with this fun and engaging program.

It’s easy. Just join, borrow, play and have a chance to win great prizes – Micro Scooters and Kobo Library2 eReaders, thanks to our program partners Sandringham Rotary Club.

BIG Summer Read runs until 31 January 2022.
