Programs outline investment in maintaining road network

Council today endorsed the provision of $4 million for maintenance and renewal of its 1,360km road network.

As part of its annual Reseal Program, Council has allocated $2 million on maintaining the surface layer of its roads, which is critical to extending the life of the underlying pavement.

The program plays a critical role in extending the life of Council roads by applying a protective reseal layer over the existing sealed surface.

This helps to prevent moisture from penetrating through deteriorated or oxidised bitumen seals into the underlying pavement, which results in costly repairs.

Council has also endorsed a $2 million Asphalt Overlay Program, which will repair and renew 24 street and road sections across 13 suburbs.

The program involved the removal and replacement of deteriorated or oxidised asphalt, which prevents moisture from penetrating into the underlying pavement, and provides a safe, smooth and sustainable surface for traffic.
