Promoting Australia as travel and investment destination

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Australia will be promoted as a world-leading travel and investment destination at Expo 2020 Dubai, joining 192 participating nations at one of the world’s biggest business and trade events.

Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Dan Tehan said the Expo would strengthen international trade and investment ties and foster greater understanding and cooperation.

“Expo 2020 Dubai will provide Australia with a platform to strengthen business and industry ties and identify new trade and investment opportunities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the wider Middle East region, and internationally,” Mr Tehan said.

“Australia’s participation will target business opportunities in key industries including food and agribusiness, advanced manufacturing and space, mining and resources, education, healthcare, infrastructure and digital technology.

“The Expo’s Australian Pavilion will showcase our world-class capabilities through a combination of in-person and virtual events. Commercial exhibitions will demonstrate Australian innovation, diversity, and hospitality, highlighting our attractiveness as a place for investment and business, and a destination that welcomes students and visitors.”

Over the six-month Dubai EXPO, the Australian Pavilion will host more than 140 business and investment events, 180 performers, 600 sporting activities, and feature more than 100 Australian speakers.

The Pavilion’s theme of Blue Sky Dreaming celebrates Australia’s 60,000-year history as home to the world’s oldest continuous civilisation, and our spirit of innovation.

Australia’s participation in Expo 2020 is another facet of our fast-growing relationship with the UAE, which is one of Australia’s closest partners in the Middle East. Australian companies have won more than $170 million worth of Expo-related contracts in the UAE, including in architecture, construction, software and logistics.

Expo 2020 Dubai will run until 31 March 2022.
