Property Council NSW Executive Director, Katie Stevenson, said the NSW Government trial addresses a key challenge in inner-city areas where space for logistics operations is limited.
“The rapid uptake of e-commerce and instant delivery in our cities is driving demand for industry to think smarter about how goods are moved to their final destination,” Ms Stevenson said.
“Given the current chronic shortage of logistics space in Sydney’s inner-city areas, this initiative is very welcome,” she said.
Using sites at Wynyard and Waverton Stations, the trial will focus on sustainable delivery methods like electric vehicles and e-bikes, capable of servicing thousands of businesses and households.
The logistics hubs aim to reduce the complexity and carbon intensity of the final leg of deliveries, offering significant environmental and operational benefits.
“Innovative solutions to last-mile delivery challenges can help to reduce congestion and lower emissions in critical areas of the city, all while supporting the efficient movement of goods,” Ms Stevenson said.
“There is a vital need for more investment in logistics infrastructure to meet the growing demand for instant delivery services.
“The Property Council looks forward to collaborating with the NSW Government and industry partners to ensure the successful implementation of the trial and the future growth of last-mile logistics infrastructure across Greater Sydney,” she said.
