Hobsons Bay City Council has postponed the public exhibition of the Proposed Annual Budget 2020-21 to consider additional information about the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The decision, made at Tuesday’s Ordinary Council Meeting, takes advantage of the extension of time granted by the Victorian Government enabling all Councils to complete their 2020-21 budgets by August 31, 2020.

The Proposed Annual Budget 2020-21 developed thus far has been the culmination of four month’s work that commenced following community consultation in October/November last year. The Coronavirus pandemic and its long term effects across our community will now be considered as part of the next phase of budget review. This will be coupled with a review of the Council’s Hardship Policy.

Council’s aim is to ensure the community is set up for ongoing resilience during the pandemic, is well positioned for recovery when restrictions start to relax and that Council can quickly support the return of a strong local economy.

When it is formally released by Council, the Proposed Annual Budget 2020-21 will be on exhibition for a four week period and the community will have another opportunity to have their say and provide feedback.

The dates the Proposed Annual Budget 2020-21 will be on public exhibition, and subsequently adopted, will be announced in the coming days.
