Prosecution Proceedings Commenced Against NT Mining Company

Officers in the Environment Division of the Department of Environment, Parks and Water Security (DEPWS) have completed investigations on behalf of the Controller of Water Resources into allegations that a mining company has breached the Water Act 1992 by failing to comply with its waste discharge licence.

The offences are alleged to have occurred in February 2021 with the matter now listed for mention in the Darwin Local Court tomorrow.

It will be alleged that NRR Mining Pty Ltd breached the conditions of its waste discharge licence for its operations in the Roper region, 60km south-east of Ngukurr.

If found guilty, the charges carry penalties for the company under the Water Act 1992.
