Proudly supporting Tasmania’s small business community

Minister for Small Business

Madeleine Ogilvie,

There is no greater supporter of Tasmania’s 39,000 small business than the Tasmanian Liberal Government, because we recognise it is a crucial sector in growing our economy, creating jobs for our community and securing Tasmania’s future.

Last week we announced Round 3 of our COVID-19 Business Impact Support Program, and I am pleased to advise that already 44 businesses have received more than $100,000 in support through this round.

Grants of between $1000 and $10,000 are available to assist businesses that are continuing to experience a downturn due to a loss of customers and/or staff due to COVID-19, and I’d encourage small businesses who have been impacted to apply.

In rounds one and two of the Program, more than $3 million in funding was provided directly to more than 1,500 businesses that needed support.

Tasmanian businesses have received more than $160 million in COVID-specific support programs since the start of the pandemic, and during the height of the pandemic in 2020, our Government provided the highest level of support for businesses per capita of any jurisdiction in the country.

I would like to thank our small business community and say how proud I am of Tasmania’s small businesses for being so resilient and robust, and getting back to business doing what they do best.

When our businesses are doing well it means our community is doing well and there are more jobs for Tasmanians, which is why we will continue to invest and harness the significant opportunities we have available to improve the lives of all Tasmanians.
