Public housing builds powering ahead

SA Gov

Tenders for 64 new homes have been awarded or are being finalised with construction on 42 of these new homes already underway. Contracts have been awarded to local firms including Belroc, Vin Melisis, Urban Concept and Brazzale.

The homes are being built across metropolitan Adelaide with suburbs including Northfield, Campbelltown, Rostrevor, Modbury, Parafield Gardens, Taperoo, Osborne, North Haven, Ferryden Park, Blair Athol, Edwardstown, Dover Gardens, Cowandilla, Marion, Park Holme and Felixstow.

The builds – a mix of two and four bedroom properties – are part of the SA Housing Authority’s ongoing building programs and complement the 134 builds already underway under the Malinauskas Government’s $177 million Public Housing Improvement Program (PHIP). The program is delivering more than 400 new homes for South Australians.

So far under the PHIP, 20 homes have been completed and tenanted, 134 are under construction, with another 48 homes out to tender. Over 2023, the final 235 PHIP homes will be tendered and commence construction. The PHIP aims to deliver 437 new public homes by mid-2026.

The homes are part of a program to rebuild public housing in South Australia, with the state government constructing a total of 564 new homes – comprising the PHIP properties, plus other building programs – and stopping the sale of 580 public homes planned by the former Liberal Government.
