QUT scores sustainability ranking success

QUT has ranked in the top 100 of universities globally in the inaugural QS World University Rankings: Sustainability.

QUT came in at 79th in the ranking which compares the world’s top universities against a range of environmental and social sustainability metrics.

QUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Sheil attributed the result to the dedication of QUT staff who aimed to tackle global challenges and achieve sustainability through research, teaching, campus operations and partnerships.

“We recognise the crucial role of universities in equipping students to address the climate and biodiversity crises while fostering peace and prosperity around the world,” Professor Sheil said.

“These rankings have a focus on outward impact, and our result is testament to our research outputs and graduate outcomes.”

Sustainability is a major element of Connections QUT Strategy 2023−2027.

“QUT is committed to embedding sustainability in everything we do. We want to walk the talk and instil in students and staff a sense of responsibility and respect for our natural world,” Professor Sheil said.

This ranking announcement follows other key sustainability successes at QUT, including the Education for Sustainability Project that strengthens the focus on sustainability in undergraduate courses, alignment of research centres to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the successful 2022 Sustainability Week.
