The City is currently undertaking rabbit control across a number of reserves.
Rabbits are recognised as Australia’s most serious pest herbivore; they destroy habitat for wildlife by preventing the growth and regeneration of native plants and impact agriculture and recreation infrastructure. We are legally required to control rabbits on land we manage, in accordance with Victoria’s Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994.
Our rabbit control program is outlined in our Rabbit Control Plan 2021-2026. Three phases of community consultation were completed to inform the content of the plan. Our rabbit control program has also been developed using expert advice, including information provided by Agriculture Victoria and the Centre for Invasive Species Solutions.
We use pindone responsibly, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, and take necessary precautions to ensure there is minimal risk of poisoning to off-target species such as wildlife or pets.
