Boating and fishing enthusiasts will be excited to learn that Mothers Beach (Schnapper Point) Boat Ramp in Mornington will be getting a much-needed renewal.

Managed by Mornington Peninsula Shire, the Schnapper Point Boat Ramp Renewal Project has received funding from Better Boating Victoria’s Better Boating Fund.

The current two-lane boat ramp – with finger jetties either side – allows two boats to be launched and retrieved simultaneously from car trailers. The renewal will help to increase capacity and improve the efficiency of launching and retrieving vessels from Port Phillip Bay.

The renewal will include:

• Concrete manoeuvring area

• Pedestrian crossing

• Northern finger pier

• Fish cleaning table

• Southern finger pier (subject to available funding)

• Widened and lengthened ramp.

Better Boating Victoria (BBV) has been working closely with the Shire to help improve public boating facilities in the Mornington area.

BBV has provided the Shire with $278,000 towards Schnapper Point Boat Ramp Renewal Project – Stage 1 (Planning, preliminary investigations and concept design). Future funding will be required for Stage 2 (Detailed design and permits) and Stage 3 (Tendering and construction).

As a part of Stage 1 we have engaged with Sureside Consulting, a maritime and coastal engineering social enterprise, to develop a best-for-project concept design with consideration given to safety, amenity, budget and effective balance of all stakeholders’ needs.
