Raptor Squad officers have charged a Merrylands man with child grooming offences after he allegedly made multiple attempts to groom a teenage girl.
On Friday 1 May 2026, interstate officers – assuming the online identity of a teenage girl – spoke with a 39-year-old man on an online platform, where police will allege the man engaged in sexually explicit conversations including sending explicit photos.
The investigation was then handed over State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad who commenced inquiries.
Following those inquiries, about 7.30am today (Wednesday 8 July 2026), Raptor Squad officers executed a search warrant at a property in Merrylands, where police seized electronic devices and an amount of drugs.
A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Granville Police Station, where he was charged with use carriage service-groom under 16 years of age for sex, use carriage service-send indecent material to under 16 years of age, use carriage service-procure under the age of 16 sex with another and possess prohibited drug.
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Local Court 6 today (Wednesday 8 July 2026).
