The Clean Energy Regulator (CER) Annual Report 2022-23 was tabled in Parliament today by Minister for Climate Change and Energy, the Hon Chris Bowen MP.
The report describes the CER’s activities and performance against targets set in our Corporate Plan and the Portfolio Budget Statements for the 2022-23 reporting year. It provides analysis on how the CER is achieving its purpose: to accelerate carbon abatement for Australia.
Highlights
This financial year was an important year for the CER with legislative changes and funding announcements setting the framework for our role in accelerating carbon abatement for Australia through the rest of this decade and beyond.
Highlights include:
- Carbon abatement associated with the schemes we administer continued the record of new highs, achieving an estimated 62.7 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-e), up from 59.1 million in 2021-22.
- Large and small-scale renewable energy delivered rose in 2022-23 with 2.7 gigawatts (GW) of new renewable energy power stations approved and 3 GW of small-scale systems installed.
- 97% of scheme participants told us they were satisfied with the quality and timeliness of the market information we provide.
- The Independent Review of Australian Carbon Credit Units provided important independent assurance of the work we do and of the Australian Carbon Credit Unit Scheme as a whole. The review made key recommendations to help clarify roles and highlighted the need for greater transparency of scheme data and information.
