Reappointment of Chairperson of Data Standards Body

The Morrison Government is pleased to announce the reappointment of Mr Andrew Stevens as the part-time Chairperson of the Data Standards Body (DSB) for a one-year period from 14 August 2020.

The DSB is responsible for the development of technical standards that provide consumers with safe, convenient, and timely methods for accessing and sharing their data under the Consumer Data Right (CDR). The CDR gives Australians greater control over their data and allows them to safely share it with trusted third parties such as banks and fintechs. The CDR will enable consumers and small businesses to make better decisions regarding the products and services they access and allow them to switch between providers more easily.

Mr Stevens was first appointed as Interim Chair in 2018 and then appointed as the part-time Chair in 2019. He has shown a commitment to ensuring that the standards put the interests of consumers first and provide high levels of privacy and data security. He has also ensured that the standards have been developed in close consultation with information technology firms, industry, consumers and privacy groups.

Mr Stevens is a former Managing Director of IBM Australia and is the current Chair of the Innovation and Science Australia Board.

The Government congratulates Mr Stevens on his reappointment and looks forward to his continued contribution to the important work of the DSB.
