Record high export levels another confidence boost for Tasmanian businesses

Guy Barnett,Minister for Trade

Tasmanian exports continue to grow, recording another record high, confirming that the world wants what Tasmania has.

Australian Bureau of Statistics data released today shows that Tasmania’s merchandise exports in the 12-months to September 2021 have reached $4.2 billion, topping the previous 12-month record high seen last month, when we exceeded $4 billion for the first time.

Surpassing national growth, Tasmanian exports are now 19.5 per cent higher than the previous year – the second-highest annual growth in the nation.

While the world continues to recover from the lasting impact of the pandemic, our agility and flexibility this year have meant that trade continued to improve.

Tasmanians know that more trade means more jobs.

It’s clear that our efforts to support Tasmanian exporters through our Tasmanian Trade Strategy, including expanding opportunities in established and emerging markets, are working.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue delivering an economy that supports and encourages Tasmanian businesses to produce world-class products and seek out export opportunities.
