The latest trade data shows Tasmania’s goods exports continue to grow, now sitting at a record $5.15 billion.
This is a 12.7 per cent increase year on year, significantly outpacing the national average of 3.8 per cent.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff welcomed this growth.
“Tasmania’s global reputation continues to shine,” the Premier said.
“The recent decision to restart the Mt Lyell copper mine is set to turbocharge our exports even further.
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is backing our manufacturers, exporters and primary industries to the hilt.
“It is having a significant financial benefit, these record level of exports are a key part of our resilient economy.”
Minister for Small Business, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Guy Barnett, said growing trade was core business for the Tasmanian Government.
“Tasmania has fresh produce, seafood, minerals, timber, advanced manufacturing and more being sent to every corner of the globe,” Minister Barnett said.
“We are ambitious in our efforts, and want to see Tasmania’s growing annual exports hit $15 billion by 2050.
“We’re delivering for the Tasmanian economy, removing red tape and letting our exporters soar to new heights.”
