Recycling statement by Acting Mayor Louise Crawford – update 3

Port Phillip Council is again delivering its recyclables to SKM Services’ Laverton North plant for processing.

After a weekend inspection, EPA Victoria has allowed the site to again accept recyclables, with a follow-up compliance check due later this week. This followed a ban being imposed on 11 July due to concerns about potential fire risks posed by outdoor stockpiles.

We have avoided sending any recyclables to landfill over the past week and encourage residents to continue putting out their recycling bins as usual.

Council is continuing to work with the Metropolitan Waste and Resource Recovery Group, which manages our contract with SKM, on medium and longer-term solutions, in case they are required.
