RED Grants to support Gascoyne projects

  • Two Gascoyne projects to receive more than $350,000 in Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants
  • State Government investing in regional jobs and economic growth
  • The McGowan Government is investing more than $350,000 in two Gascoyne projects to drive new tourism and economic development opportunities in the region.

The State Government has allocated $23.9 million over four years to the RED grants program, administered by the nine Regional Development Commissions, providing $361,904 to the Gascoyne region in the first round of funding.

Whalebone Brewing Co Pty Ltd will receive $216,470 to install a larger brewing and canning system, enabling the company to increase canning efficiency and widen distribution of their product throughout the Gascoyne region.

The Exmouth-based company is set to double production and distribution of its local craft beer; the grant will also help expand the town’s economy.

Dirk Hartog Island Distilleries Pty Ltd will use its grant of $145,434 for the development of the Wirruwana Hub, which will incorporate a visitor centre, bar and café and act as a gateway for visitors and tour operators on Dirk Hartog Island.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The Gascoyne is rich in resource and investment opportunities with an economy founded on quality horticulture, pastoral and fishery production, resources and tourism.

“The RED Grants provide the opportunity to focus on community-led projects which will boost our regional economy, create jobs and add vibrancy to towns.

“By investing in a variety of regional initiatives, the State Government is helping to grow Western Australia’s regional areas into thriving and sustainable communities.”
