Red tape slashed and fair go for struggling tradies under Victorian Liberals and Nationals

Tradies will save hundreds of dollars under a $63 million plan by the Victorian Liberals and Nationals to cut one of Daniel Andrews’ many tax increases.

This slug on hard-working family builders adds to their cost of living pressures and will ultimately lead to increased housing costs for Victorians.

This week, Daniel Andrews significantly hiked fees for both individual and company building registration – adding further costs on Victorian housing.

That’s why under a Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government, those increases will be reversed.

Shadow Treasurer, David Davis, said Victorians deserve a state where hard work is rewarded, tax is minimised, government waste is stopped and where essential services are delivered.

“Victoria’s reputation must be restored as a place to invest in and move to, where the benefits of reforms can flow quickly and where tradies and builders are not clobbered with unnecessary new taxes and charges.

“Only the Victorian Liberals and Nationals will cut Labor’s waste, end the cycle of mismanagement, blame and spin and invest to recover, rebuild and make Victoria number one again.”

Mr Davis has today also unveiled two other important reforms.

The Liberals and Nationals will reform building planning and approvals without Labor’s planned big new housing tax.

The move will cut the cost of purchasing and building a family home, making it easier for Victorians to get into the property market.

“It’s clear that removing outdated and unnecessary red tape will result in significant economic benefits, including greater housing affordability for families looking to purchase a home,” Mr Davis said.

“A Liberals and Nationals Government will deliver these planning reforms within three months of coming to office, after consultation with local government, without Labor’s tax, because that is what’s needed for the state to recover and rebuild.”

Shadow Minister for Planning, Ryan Smith, said the planning reforms are vital in changing the state’s current system.

“Victorians are drowning under increased cost of living pressures and simply cannot afford to pay more due to Labor’s waste and economic mismanagement.

“Instead of more taxes and higher charges, the Liberals and Nationals will implement these reforms where Daniel Andrews previously failed.”

In a third important reform, a Matthew Guy Government will, within 60 days of coming to government, establish and operate a Victorian Productivity Commission to independently advise the Victorian Government and community on productivity enhancing reforms.

“Victoria cannot afford to be left behind in the productivity race. We need to carefully and independently examine the steps we can take to lift productivity in Victoria and thereby lift income per head and the standard of living in Victoria,” Mr Davis said.

“Early reports by the Victorian Productivity Commission could include steps that can be taken to increase the workforce participation of women as a step to improving productivity.”

Labor’s cycle of mismanagement, cost blowouts, higher debt and more taxes cannot continue.

Only a Liberals and Nationals Government in November will put an end to Labor’s debt, waste and mismanagement and put Victorians first.
