Refreshed Bunbury waterfront delivered in time for summer

  • Renewal of Bunbury’s Jetty Baths Park finished ahead of summer holidays
  • First scope of works in $10.8 million Casuarina Drive Redevelopment completed, as part of the McGowan Government’s Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project
  • Planning well underway for future waterfront initiatives, including the construction of two breakwaters
  • The McGowan Government has continued to unlock Bunbury’s potential as a coastal city, delivering another refreshed foreshore area in time for locals and visitors to enjoy over summer.

Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan and Bunbury MLA Don Punch today joined the community to celebrate the improvements made to Jetty Baths Park.

Through the Casuarina Drive Redevelopment, which forms part of the wider Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project, the park has been made-over as a family-friendly destination.

Key features of the new waterfront promenade include improved beach access along with new pathways, landscaped areas and seating as well as picnic and barbecue facilities.

An accessible playground replaces the previous timber play structure, which no longer met standards and was suffering termite damage.

The Jetty Baths Park makeover follows the renewal of other local foreshore areas through the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront initiative, including the expansion and upgrade of the Dolphin Discovery Centre, revitalisation of the Koombana Bay foreshore including new landmark pedestrian bridge, and Jetty Road Causeway upgrade.

Work is already taking place on the next scope of works under the $10.8 million Casuarina Drive Redevelopment, which involves upgrades to roads, drainage, car parking and servicing along Casuarina Drive.

Works to complete the remainder of landscaping on the Casuarina Drive waterfront are expected to commence mid-2022.

Planning is well underway for Stage 3 – Phase 1 of Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront, which includes new breakwaters at Casuarina Boat Harbour and Koombana Bay to support further land and marine infrastructure development.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project is continuing deliver reinvigorate Bunbury as a beautiful place to live, work and visit.

“The project has breathed new life into key areas of waterfront – and in the process generated social and economic benefits while changing perceptions of Bunbury.

“Planning is well underway for a future stage that is expected to once again change the face of Bunbury through the establishment of a marina at Koombana Bay and a marine industry hub in the outer harbour.”

As stated by Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

“Summer is upon us and school holidays are about to start, so it is fantastic these new facilities are completed and ready for local families to enjoy.

“I am really looking forward to seeing the next stage of works on Casuarina Drive completed and access to our ocean beach improved to provide families with a range of options for a day at the beach.

“We have world class beaches in Bunbury and are spoilt for choice between ocean beaches and protected bays. These works are making the most of our coastal assets for our community.”
