Refreshed Cabinet right mix for NSW

The state’s peak business organisation, the NSW Business Chamber, says the new Cabinet announced by Premier Gladys Berejiklian has the right mix of experience and fresh ideas to Keep NSW Number 1.

“The Cabinet has been revitalised following the election, and while there are many familiar faces it is good to see other very solid performers in the Parliament being given their opportunity”, said NSW Business Chamber Chief Executive Stephen Cartwright.

“From a business perspective, this will deliver ongoing confidence as the economic leadership team of the Premier and Treasurer Dominic Perrottet has been retained, ensuring that the economic improvement achieved over the past 8 years will continue,” Mr Cartwright said.

“The election was fought on economic management and fiscal responsibility, and the Treasurer has earned the opportunity to continue to manage the state’s finances.

“The Deputy Premier has responsibility for Regional NSW, and the clear view of the electorate was the Government must get on with the job of building regional infrastructure.

“Energy reliability and pricing is a fundamental issue this Government must confront over the next four years, and a new Minister, Matt Kean will bring a fresh approach, although it is paramount that, in this new portfolio, he consults more regularly with stakeholders.

“Small Business has a new Minister in Damien Tudehope, and we look forward to working closely with him to ensure that issues that matter to this sector are at the forefront of his decision making.

“A Minister for Customer Service is a great initiative and Victor Dominello will bring experience from his time as Minister for Finance to ensure that customers remain a priority.

“The business community will also be delighted with the appointment of Geoff Lee as Minister responsible for Skills and Tertiary Education, an area of great concern right across the State.”

“There’s no time for this Cabinet to bask in the glory of their election triumph. To Keep NSW Number 1 they need to hit the ground running and tackle policy outcomes for the broader community,” Mr Cartwright said.
