Refunds for unlawful EV Tax must be delivered before Christmas

Liberal Party Victoria

The Allan Government must refund Victorian drivers for its unlawful Electric Vehicle (EV) Tax before Christmas.

Today, more than a month after its EV Tax was found unconstitutional by the High Court, Labor has finally confirmed it will refund drivers who paid its illegal tax but has given no clear indication when refunds will be paid.

Treasurer Tim Pallas must also rule out imposing more taxes on Victorians after he earlier said the High Court decision “could well mean that we’ll have to totally recast the way that we raise revenue in this state”.

Shadow Treasurer, Brad Rowswell, said: “The Allan Government has known since October that it must refund Victorians for its illegal tax, so instead of acting like The Grinch, Treasurer Tim Pallas must do the right thing by Victorians and return their money.

“In the middle of a cost-of-living crisis, it’s the least Labor can do before Christmas, rather than “months” as the Treasurer indicated.

“After introducing or increasing 53 taxes and charges since coming to office, Labor must also rule out introducing more taxes on Victorians.”
