Region’s Pools Open For Season

Public pools across the Tamworth region are preparing to welcome swimmers back as the 2026-27 pool season gets underway.

The Tamworth Olympic Swimming Pool reopens from Monday 12 October, while Barraba Memorial Swimming Pool, Kootingal Memorial Swimming Pool, Manilla Memorial Swimming Pool and the Nundle Memorial Swimming Pool reopen from Tuesday 13 October.

The South and West Tamworth Memorial Pool will open from the first weekend of Saturday 17 October on limited hours, and increasing as the need arises.

Ahead of the season opening, Tamworth Regional Council staff have undertaken a comprehensive program of inspections, repairs and upgrades to ensure facilities are safe, reliable and ready for another busy summer.

Tamworth Regional Council Aquatics Coordinator Gary Johnson said the annual winter works program is an important investment in maintaining the region’s ageing aquatic infrastructure.

“Many of our public pools are between 50 and 80 years old, so ongoing maintenance is essential to keep them operating safely, efficiently and reliably for our communities,” Mr Johnson said “During the off-season, our teams have carried out annual servicing of circulation pumps and chemical dosing systems, along with a range of upgrades and refurbishment works across the region.”

Significant improvements have been completed at Barraba Memorial Swimming Pool, including gutter repairs, repainting, new waterline tiles, refurbishment of the toddlers’ pool and upgrades to chemical storage facilities. In Manilla, water pipes have been replaced and a new out-of-hours access gate installed which is planned to be functional by early December. The Nundle Memorial Swimming Pool has undergone waterproofing, tiling and resurfacing works. New stairs have also been installed at Kootingal Memorial Swimming Pool to improve accessibility.

Mr Johnson said while Council remains committed to maintaining existing facilities, planning for the region’s future aquatic needs to remain a priority.

“We’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to engage with Council’s Have Your Say campaign for the Aquatic, Education and Health Centre of Excellence,” he said.

“The feedback we’ve received highlights just how important year-round aquatic facilities are for learn-to-swim programs, rehabilitation, fitness and community wellbeing, and it is providing great support for our efforts to secure additional funding for the project.”
