Renewed appeal over glassing at Haymarket restaurant; CCTV released, NSW

Police are renewing an appeal for information as investigations continue into an assault in Haymarket earlier this year.

About 9.15pm on Thursday 27 February 2020, a 23-year-old man was sitting with a friend in a restaurant in Thomas Street, when he was approached from behind by another man.

Police have been told the man struck him in the back of the head with a glass bottle, before he snatched the 23-year-old man’s spectacles and threw them back into his face.

The injured man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he required 14 stitches to his head.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

As part of their inquiries, officers have released CCTV of two men who may be able to assist with the investigation.

The first man has been described as being of Asian appearance, about 175cm-180cm tall, of medium build, aged in his 30s, with black short hair. The man is depicted in the vision wearing a black shirt and black pants.

The second man has been described as being of Mediterranean appearance, about 180cm-1850cm tall, of medium build, aged in his 30s, with black short hair. The man is depicted in the vision wearing a black shirt and blue ripped denim jeans.

Sydney City Police Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Inspector David El-Badawi, urged members of the public to come forward if they recognise someone in the vision.

“Our detectives are very keen to speak to anyone who has information about this incident,” Det Insp El-Badawi said.

“We believe the two men depicted in the CCTV may be able to assist us with our investigation.
