Gold Coasters are urged to be patient and report problems across parks and on roads as storms continue to impact community facilities across the city.
Acting Mayor Donna Gates said some parks remained too wet to mow with crews and contractors only able to slash the grass with hand-held brush cutters.
“Putting tractors and ride-on mowers in there can cause more damage. We are doing our best and will get to all 2300 parks over time.
“More wet weather is coming which sets us back again. We have provided additional funds in our budget to ensure we stay on top of the work needed but it is gaining access to the parks that is the issue right now.”
Acting Mayor Gates asked residents to download the City App.
“We have seven dedicated road crews out now working on our 3200km of local roads. Potholes are the No 1 issue. The crews are applying cold mix to the potholes to ensure it can bind with the bitumen under these conditions. Normally, we apply a hot mix but the current conditions mean we have had to adapt our processes.”
Acting Mayor Gates said the mowing cycle meant City contractors mow the equivalent of 3500 Metricon stadiums every two weeks.
“That’s a big task but residents rightly expect it to be done on time.”
