Northern Australia’s largest resource industry conference and exhibition, NT Resources Week is kicking off in Darwin today.

The two day event is a must for anyone doing resources related business in the Territory and brings together the major players in the sector to discuss the Territory’s competitive advantage.

Run in partnership with the Territory Government, NT Resources Week brings together key players in the industry, connecting attendees in mining, exploration, engineering, oil and gas and environmental management.

The Territory government is driving economic investment and maximising resource exploration with over 20 mining projects working towards a Final Investment Decision with a combined value of over $7 billion and potential to create over 5,000 construction jobs and 4,000 ongoing jobs.

In the 2019-20 financial year, the mining sector employed over 4,400 people directly and the total value of mineral production in the Northern Territory was $4.3 billion.

While in the 2021 calendar year, mineral exploration expenditure in the NT was $153.4 million, up 38 per cent on the figure of $110.8 million for 2020. The highest annual figure since 2011.

NT Resources Week will also explore key milestone projects such as the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct and SunCable’s Australia-Asia power link.

Quotes from Minister for Industry, Nicole Manison:

“Resources week is a fantastic opportunity for industry to come together to progress economic opportunities for the Northern Territory.

Establishing new mines and advancing the resources industry creates thousands of local jobs and brings the Territory closer to a $40 billion economy by 2030.

Critical minerals found in the Territory are used in energy, space, digital technologies and defence, we are well placed to meet the growing demand for these products, proving we are the place to do business.”

Quotes from Gavin Lockyer, Managing Director Arafura Resources

“Critical minerals, such as rare earths, are strategically important for global supply chains and emerging sectors such as electric vehicles and renewable energy applications.

The resources sector remains the mainstay of the Territory’s economic future, through exports, government revenue, jobs and procurement.

Events such as NT Resources Week showcase the pipeline of projects on the horizon, such as Arafura’s Nolans Project in Central Australia, which is well on its way for a final investment decision.”
