Restoration of Woy Woy War Memorial

If you are out exercising or walking along the shared path at the Woy Woy waterfront, you may notice that the Woy Woy War Memorial has been restored.

At almost 100 years old, the Woy Woy War Memorial was in need of some love and a few months ago our teams helped with the conservation work to repair and protect the surviving historic fabric of the cenotaph and repair missing stone portions.

With funding from the NSW Government’s Community War Memorial Fund, our teams:

  • stabilised the cracked spire
  • fixed the microfissure cracking of the spire’s intricate base blocks; and
  • repaired the lead lettering (using traditional lead lettering techniques) on the marble inscription plates

Further funding provided by the Federal Government’s Saluting Their Service Program then enabled the completion of the memorial’s restoration including the removal and replacement of the failed epoxy patches, armatures, and (large) missing stone portions of both the Pedestal Base and Plinth.

The intricate work was completed by Rookwood Cemetery Monumental Heritage Team – thank you for helping us with the restoration of this important monument!
