Revised Estimates Report shows Tasmania is on track for biggest-ever budget deficit

Tasmanian Labor

Today’s Revised Estimates Report reveals ten years of Liberal rorts and waste and nothing to show for it.

Despite some thinly veiled spin and a late afternoon release date, the figures actually show we’re on track for the biggest budget deficit in the state’s history.

We’re heading towards record debt and there’s little to show for it except a health crisis, ambulance ramping, cost-of-living crisis, people unable to get a roof over their heads and education results that are the worst of any state.

All the while, government spending is out of control.

The Rockliff Liberal Government has spent an extra $1.1 billion since the budget and we’re heading towards record debt despite getting an additional $1.9 billion in GST revenue.

Today’s report further makes clear that Tasmania can’t afford to build a stadium, because the Liberals have wrecked the budget.
