Telopea is on track to become a more vibrant community, with better transport connections, more open space, and greater choice of housing, with rezoning for the area announced today by the Minister for Planning and Housing, Anthony Roberts.
“Rezoning will bring to life the master plan for Telopea, developed by the NSW Government with valuable input from the community,” Mr Roberts said.
“Along with the rezoning, the NSW Government is releasing a Local Character Statement, the outcome of our efforts to hear what the community wants, which has helped to make sure community views are at the heart of the planning process.
“Residents will be able to enjoy new retail, parks and shops within walking distance from the new proposed Parramatta Light Rail stop.
“The rezoning also ensures residents will have a choice of quality designed housing types, with up to 4,500 homes, including up to 1,000 social and affordable homes, to be provided over the next 20 years,” he said.
Mr Roberts said more useable open space, upgraded parks and improvements to pedestrian and cycling connections have also been included in the plans.
“The Department has provided $5 million as part of the Precinct Support Scheme which will be used to upgrade Sturt Park and Acacia Park.
“A 0.65-hectare open space area adjacent to the new light rail stop and improvements to cycling and pedestrian connections will ensure active lifestyles for residents are encouraged.”
Member for Parramatta, Geoff Lee, said rezoning will ensure Telopea is a strong and resilient community for years to come.
“By rezoning Telopea, we are providing the community with what they want – open space, more choice when it comes to the kind of home they need and much improved transport connections,” Mr Lee said.
“The rezoning also puts in place protections for the heritage-listed home ‘Redstone’ by altering the development to protect the landscape and setting of this important property.”
