Ride share robbery

Four teenage girls have been arrested following a carjacking in Windsor Gardens this morning.

Just before 3am Thursday 13 July police were called to North East Road after a ride share driver was allegedly threatened with a knife by a group of female passengers before they stole her black Lexus. Thankfully the victim, a 25-year-old North East woman, was not physically injured.

Eastern District police flooded the area with a patrol spotting the car speeding along Dequetteville Terrace before it turned north onto Flinders Street heading toward The Parade. Here police activated their emergency lights and pursued the Lexus for a short time.

The Lexus travelled east along Grey Street side swiping a number of parked cars before turning south on Sydenham Road. Near the intersection of William Street and Sydenham Road the car clipped a curb and was dumped by the occupants who ran from the vehicle.

Patrols cordoned the area immediately catching the alleged driver on Sydenham Road. PD Cooper and PolAir were called in to assist and a short time later located and arrested three passengers.

The alleged driver, a 14-year-old Mitchell Park girl, and passengers, 14-year-old Mitchell Park girl, 14-year-old Black Forest girl and 15-year-old Mansfield Park girl are expected to be charged with a number of serious offences including aggravated robbery and illegal use of motor vehicle.

The car was towed from the scene. The investigation is ongoing and police ask anyone with further information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report on line at www.crimestopperssa.com.au – you can remain anonymous.
